Ohio SBDCs Receive $1.8M to Foster the Creation and Growth of Small Businesses

March 4, 2011

Ohio’s Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) will receive $1.8 million from a federal grant provided for by the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010. The funds will support the consulting, counseling and training that the centers provide to small businesses. The SBDC in Central Ohio provides such services from its locations at Columbus State Community College and at the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center.

"Small businesses in Ohio provide product design, development, and diversity, making them critical to Ohio's economic transformation," said Mark Kvamme, director of the Ohio Department of Development. "With more than 200,000 small employers and 700,000 contractors and self-employed, Ohio's entrepreneurial sectors employ more than 48 percent of the private sector workforce."

The grant, which will be administered by the Ohio Department of Development, is part of a $50 million federal grant provided by the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 to SBDCs around the nation. The primary objective of the funding is to support job creation and retention within the small business community through individualized, in-depth consultations with entrepreneurs and small business owners.
