For the fourth year in a row, Ohio has been awarded the Governor’s Cup by Site Selection Magazine for ranking number one in the nation in terms of capital investments in new and expanded facilities. The award is primarily based on the number of capital investments of at least $1 million towards the creation of a minimum of 50 jobs, or the addition of 20,000 square feet or more to an existing facility.
For 2009, Ohio had 381 such projects, just edging out Texas (374), Michigan (372) and Pennsylvania (335). Although tough economic times have presented numerous challenges, the Governor and the state have focused on initiatives that have allowed the state to outperform the rest of the nation.
“During these times of challenge, we have tried to determine priorities and focus on the factors that are essential to future growth and development,” says Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.
One of these priorities, although Governor Strickland says he does not claim credit for it, is the Ohio Third Frontier program. He tells Site Selection it’s a program he’s glad the state has and one that has contributed to the state’s growth and recognition as a premier location for starting or expanding a business.
