OSU’s New Masterplan to Support Vision of One University

September 18, 2009

OSU has begun releasing preliminary details for its new comprehensive masterplan which is being called “One Ohio State Framework” in reference to President Gordon Gee’s call for “one university.”

The plan, being developed by Boston’s Sasaki & Associates, will create a pair of cross-axes (east-west and north-south) that will define boundaries and create individual sections (or frames) of the campus which are intended to facilitate sustainable growth and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Going forward, development of every unit within the university will be done in consideration of the overall plan.  This approach is being adopted to promote better efficiencies, sustainability and collaboration as well as partnerships within neighborhoods.
“The emphasis of the entire process is all the pieces should be integrated in the spirit of One Ohio State,” says Jeff Kaplan, OSU’s senior vice president for administration and planning and special assistant to the president.
OSU intends to engage the surrounding communities in the planning process through a series of town meetings and forums.
