Gordon Gee Named Co-Chair of Energy Initiative Advisory Committee

OSU President E. Gordon Gee has been selected to co-chair a newly formed Energy Initiative Advisory Committee which was recently launched by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC).  The committee brings together 15 universities to address the unique role America’s public research universities play in achieving energy independence for the nation.

“America’s public research universities have long played a significant role in the research, development and deployment of energy science and energy technologies,” said Peter McPherson, president of NASULGC. “Collectively, we can channel the way for making more of these contributions a reality.”

OSU already has a demonstrated commitment to alternative energy technologies and policies.  More than 120 faculty members are dedicated to the nation's quest for environmentally sustainable energy solutions that promote economic growth in Ohio and safeguard our planet.  Predicated by the school’s extensive agricultural-bioscience expertise, projects are underway to sequester carbon, refine carbon-trading, generate cleaner, less expensive and renewable power and protect natural resources.

In addition, the university is partnering with advanced materials experts to make solar energy collection commercially viable. And, the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), is working towards market viable renewable energy solutions that increase the energy efficiency of automobiles and power plants.

Gee says the university welcomes the opportunity to partner with private industry, government, national laboratories, Battelle and other institutions to grow jobs and industries centered around alternative energy.  OSU currently ranks second among American universities in terms of industry-sponsored research.
