OSU and IU Get $8.6M to Continue Collaborative Study of Gene Activity in Certain Cancers

July 16, 2010

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded Ohio State and Indiana University $8.6 million over the next five years to continue studying genes and changes in gene activity in breast, ovarian and prostate cancers.  The funding will continue the work of the Center for Cancer Systems Biology which was founded in 2004 with an almost $8 million grant from (NCI).  The center plays an important role in the continuing development of personalized medicine as it continues to identify epigenetic biomarkers for predicting resistance to anti-hormone treatments and chemotherapies in cancer patients.  The center is also responsible for training young scientists to conduct cancer systems biology research.
