June 18, 2010
The Ohio State University will break ground today, Friday, June 18, 2010, on its $1 billion expansion of the OSU Medical Center. Dubbed ProjectONE, the expansion is expected to create 10,000 jobs, infuse $4.1 billion annually into the economy and allow the Medical Center to serve 310,000 additional patients each year by 2015.
ProjectONE is so named because of the comprehensive approach the OSU Medical Center is taking to healthcare for today and in the future. ProjectONE will create the facilities for teams from diverse disciplines to collaborate on new research, particularly in the rapidly evolving field of personalized care. Personalized care combines an individual’s genetic history with details about their lifestyle and environment to develop unique and highly personalized treatments. Ohio State is dedicated to becoming the leader in world-class personalized healthcare and ProjectONE is one key component to fulfilling this mission.
The ProjectONE tower will be located at Cannon Drive and 12th Avenue and will become home to a new Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. There will also be a new critical care building and state-of-the-art facilities to provide integrated spaces for research, education and patient care in support of the comprehensive and collaborative approach to healthcare which ProjectONE represents.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for 3 p.m. behind the Cramblett Medical Clinic at 456 W. 10th Ave.
