As a way of recognizing how federal stimulus monies have been invested in the nation’s academic laboratories, Congress, along with representatives of the nation’s leading public and private research universities, announced the launch of ScienceWorksForUS.com, an initiative to highlight Recovery Act-sponsored research in all 50 states and profiling the researchers who are contributing to America’s recovery.
Caroline Whitacre, OSU’s vice president for research, participated in the press conference announcing the program which calls attention to the scientific research and related activities that have been made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). “The Reinvestment and Recovery Act has allowed Ohio State to approach important global problems in health care, energy, climate change as well as advances in computing,” says Whitacre. “In these areas we have aggressively partnered with business and industry to spur additional innovation.”
ARRA has provided OSU with more than $82 million in one-time funding for 174 projects which are featured on a new web site In all, the stimulus program contained $21.5 billion for scientific research, the purchase of capital equipment and science-related construction projects.
