Ohio State held its second annual P4 Personalized Healthcare Conference last week to promote thought leadership in personalized medicine, an emerging field based on the principles of “predict, prevent, personalize and participate” (P4). Leaders from around the globe converged on Central Ohio to share their knowledge and to learn from peers dedicated to advancing this field.
The current focus of healthcare is to treat episodes of disease rather than to prevent them. But the P4 approach to healthcare focuses on finding each patient’s potential health risk, preventing diseases before they manifest and treating them more coherently if they do.
The field is one in which OSU has taken a leadership role with the founding in 2005 of its Center for Personalized Healthcare.
