Philip Payne, an internationally recognized leader in clinical and translational research informatics, has been named chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Ohio State.
Biomedical informatics is key to the practice of personalized healthcare. It involves the study and process of efficiently gathering, storing, managing, retrieving, analyzing, communicating, sharing and applying biomedical information to improve the detection, prevention and treatment of disease.
Dr. Payne currently serves as director of the Biomedical Informatics Program for Ohio State’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science, director of data management services in the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Biomedical Informatics Shared Resource and co-executive director of Ohio State’s Center for IT Innovation in Healthcare.
