Popular Science has opened nominations for its annual Best of What’s New edition. Best of What’s New is one of Popular Science’s bestselling issues of the year. Each year, Best of What’s New winners are featured in local and national media interviews, generating tens of millions of media impressions.
Last year, Central Ohio’s TouchBionics ProDigits was featured in the health category. The issue features the best innovations in 11 categories including Auto Tech, Aviation & Space, Computing, Engineering, Gadgets, Green Tech, Health, Home Entertainment, Home Tech, Recreation and Security. To be eligible, the product or technology must be on sale or have been announced with a firm on-sale date, and that announcement or introduction must fall between October 1, 2010, and September 30, 2011. The product or technology must exist and be testable. Products need not be sold in the U.S. and a product may be submitted if it represents some type of underlying technology, such as an innovative suspension system in a car or a new image sensor in a digital camera.
There is typically an entry fee of $300-$350, but through connections with the magazine, it may be possible to have that fee waived, provided companies contact TechColumbus by July 20 and request to be nominated. Editors from the magazine will then vet the nomination and determine if the company/technology will go forward.
