Degree in Computer Science-related discipline or an equivalent academic/experience combination.

Experience
  • 8 years' experience in relational database administration including 5+ years experience supporting, tuning, optimizing, deploying and updating MySQL instances in a high volume transactional environment with critical uptime requirements; MS-SQL and Oracle experience also desirable

  • Ideal candidate will have good exposure to virtualization, Linux and Windows systems and SAN storage

  • Must have configured and managed replication/standby instances of MySQL in local and remote data centers

  • Must have configured and managed online backup technologies in MySQL and ensure disaster recovery and data retention protocols (backup, monitoring, security, installation)

  • Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems and work with development teams on data sizing based on efficient use of multi-core systems

  • Experience implementing data integration architectures

  • Experience in disaster recovery, business continuity and 24x7availability

Description

OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs. Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials. We are currently seeking a Sr. Database Administrator at our Corporate Headquarters located in Dublin, Ohio.

The primary function of this job is to lead the implementation and support of relational MySQL databases, to provide and implement procedures for database design, security, recoverability and accessibility.  This person guides the technical staff in performance tuning, version migration and physical design.  This job is necessary for corporate data to be accessible and protected.  MS-SQL and Oracle experience are desirable.

As a Production MySQL engineer, you will work in a team environment to provide knowledge of MySQL (v 5/5.1) and logical/physical design support including backup and recovery. Knowledge of other database management systems will be a plus, i.e., Oracle, Sybase and MS SQL.  Knowledge of SQL, large databases, deployments, database design, backup/recovery, configuration, replication support and troubleshooting are required.  You will be responsible for upgrades, performance monitoring, installations, managing replication, diagnosing system problems, disaster recovery testing and maintaining user accessibility. Ability to perform consulting assignments, health checks, tuning, assessments, troubleshooting, and migrations, also on call support, services, and troubleshooting. Will be part of on-call rotation.

  • Implement new or modify existing procedures for the administration of MySQL database objects such as databases, tables, and indexes.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for database backup and recovery
  • Guide technical staff in all aspects of the relational database environments
  • Assist management in developing strategies for using relational database technology in the most productive manner including security, capacity planning and optimization
  • Lead in the monitoring and tuning of database system performance
  • Work with systems support to guide the installation and testing of new versions of database versions and related software products
  • Use knowledge or RDBMS's in multiple operating systems environments to design, implement and maintain a data integration infrastructure, including the use of messaging and brokering technologies
  • Suggest and implement technologies to allow for 24x7x365 availability
