Startup Open Searching for 50 Most Promising Young Companies

June 9, 2011

In preparation for Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2011, Startup Open has announced its search for the 50 most promising new startups from around the world.  The competition, now in its second year, is open to entrepreneurs who have experienced a “startup moment” (defined as any action relating to launching a new business such as incorporating a company, completing a first sale or securing outside financing, etc.) within the last year.

Startup Open applicants will be judged on concept, growth projections and knowledge of their industry. Deadline for applying is September 15, 2011, with the GEW 50 being announced October 15.  A handful of companies will be selected for top honors and prizes, which will be announced November 14, to coincide with the start of GEW 2011, November 14-20.

Last year’s grand prize winner, Oliver Ceberio of Boston, received a trip to Necker Island where he had the opportunity to network with Sir Richard Branson and other successful entrepreneurs.  Other top winners were awarded two days of mentoring through the Kauffman Labs.
