Support for Institutional Innovations

What are institutional innovations?

One of TechColumbus’ core missions is to reach out to the research institutions in Central Ohio to identify and harvest early stage research, scientific discoveries, and raw intellectual property that may have commercial potential, and then work with our institutional partners to translate these early stage opportunities into marketable products.  The Technology Commercialization Team (TCT) is uniquely positioned to seek innovations at the conceptual stage through established collaborative relationships with such institutions as The Ohio State University, including the Fisher College of Business and the OSU Medical Center, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Battelle and the OhioHealth Research & Innovation Institute.

Whether a physician with a medical device concept on the back of a napkin or a professor with a nano-scale advanced material or sensor, TCT is ready to engage inventors and bring to bear the resources of TechStart, including pre-seed funding and internal domain expertise across the biosciences, IT and advanced materials, to move a concept out of the lab towards commercialization.

Funded Institutional Companies

OhioHealth – Joint Sound, Lyntek Medical Technologies, Sybermed, Epico, BioAerogels

NW Children’s – Surgery Navigator, URMAC

OSU – EXCMR, Vision Optimization, NanoMed, Health Care DataWorks, Arlington Products, Traycer Diagnostics, Marine Advanced Propulsion, IR Diagnostyx, EndoRetics, Arteriovations
