Survey Projects 2011 to be Growth Year for IT in Ohio

March 25, 2011

A recent survey conducted by Technology for Ohio’s Tomorrow and The Ohio Chamber of Commerce indicates that 2011 should be a year of growth in technology hiring and investments within the state.  A total of 263 companies, from large to small, completed the survey.  Approximately 45 percent of participants said their core business model was dependent on technology and therefore were categorized within survey results as tech companies.  Of these tech companies, nearly 47 percent of respondents indicated they plan to hire between 1 and 19 full-time employees in 2011.  More than 25 percent of these tech companies said they anticipate hiring 1-19 contractors this year.

For both tech and non-tech companies, the majority said they plan to make major internal investments in new technologies including servers, mobile devices, mobile applications, wireless applications, new computers and custom software.

Also of note, 71.2 percent of respondents ranked their reliance on high-speed Internet and mobile wireless between 8 and 10.  This was based on a scale from 1-10, with 1 being not reliant and 10 being very reliant.
