TechColumbus Names New Vice President of Finance and Administration

After a lengthy search that attracted nearly 200 applicants, Ted Ford, president and CEO of TechColumbus has announced that Michelle Murcia will become vice president of finance and administration for the organization. 

Murcia brings with her more than 17 years of financial experience, most recently with Battelle as director of corporate financial services, where she provided portfolio company financial oversight, managed venture fund investments, negotiated licensing transactions involving equity and M&A transactions.  Previous roles at Battelle include providing operational finance support for Battelle's National Security Global Business, and working with human resources and the venture management group to develop equity-based compensation programs. 

In 2008, Murcia also assumed responsibility for managing Boston-based Fletcher Speight Ventures’ satellite office in Columbus.  Prior to joining Battelle, Murcia was shareholder relations manager for Maxwell Technologies and a research analyst for O'Connor & Company Securities, a California municipal bond underwriting and investment banking firm.

Murcia holds an MBA from The Ohio State University and a bachelor of science degree in business administration, with an emphasis in management and accounting from California State University, San Marcos. She is a certified public accountant in the State of Ohio, holds the designation of certified equity professional.  Murcia is frequently asked to speak on the topics of equity-based compensation, the commercialization of technology from the national laboratory system, venture fund investing and corporate ventures.

Murcia’s background and experience nicely complement and strengthen the rest of the TechColumbus team.  In addition to handling finance and administration duties, she will bring considerable insight and knowledge of the venture capital world. 

She will join TechColumbus on July 7th.
