Organizational Overview:
TECH CORPS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring all K-12 students have equal access to the technology programs, resources and skills necessary to enrich their education today and to prepare them to successfully compete in the technology-driven marketplace tomorrow. Through the implementation of engaging technology programs and the deployment of more than 10,000 tech-savvy volunteers TECH CORPS programs have impacted thousands of K-12 students across the country.
The mission of TECH CORPS is three-fold and is achieved through:
- PROGRAMS. Bringing additional technology resources to K-12 students and teachers through national, state and local programs such as Student TECH CORPS, TECHie Club, TECHie Camp and Student WEB CORPS.
- PEOPLE. Recruiting and supporting tech-savvy volunteers from the community to advise and assist schools and youth-serving organizations in the integration of new technologies.
- PARTNERS. Increasing educational technology resources through partnerships with education, business, government and community.
Position: TECHie Camp Instructor, Temporary Position
TECHie Camp is a full-day, week-long technology experience designed specifically for elementary and middle school students. The goal of TECHie Camp is to engage students in activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology; as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations. Each camp has two instructors and up to 20 students.
Position Summary: Five day camp, plus 6-8 hour training session prior to the start of camp
Dates/Time: January 9, 2012 – January 13, 2012
Hours: Monday – Friday, from 9:00am to 3:30pm (Instructors arrive at 8:30am and stay no later than 4:00pm)
Salary: Up to $900.00/per camp
Location: Elementary school in the University Area District
Qualifications:
Qualified instructors must demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
- Programming (C++ and/or Java)
- Graphic Arts and 2D or 3D Video Game Design
In addition, qualified job applicants should have:
- Commitment to and passion for student success
- Genuine desire to work with students and share knowledge
- Strong communication and ability to contextualize issues at hand to accommodate students
- Problem solving skills
- Leadership experience
- A positive attitude and sense of humor
- Flexibility, energy and stamina
Responsibilities:
- The TECHie Camp Instructor will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all day-to-day aspects of the camp, including but not limited to:
- Attend training session prior to camp start date
- Familiarize and become an expert on Techie Camp tools (software & hardware)
- Review lessons/activities prior to camp and have full understanding of the curriculum in relation to students
- Have the ability to explain complex ideas to students in a language they can relate to and understand
- Create a safe classroom environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
- Record camp through photos and videos, which need to be uploaded to Picasa and YouTube
- Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
- Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
- Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
- Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program
