TECH CORPS Ohio

Qualified instructors must demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following areas:

• Programming (Java and/or C++)
• Graphic Arts and 2D or 3D Video Game Design
• Strong fundamentals of Physics and Math

Previous teaching experience and/or experience working with students preferred but not required

TECH CORPS Ohio will offer two TECHie Camps for elementary school students during their October Intersession. Each camp will consist of two Instructors and up to 15 3rd – 5th grade students. Tech-savvy instructors will use TECH CORPS’ TECHie Camp curriculum to engage students in activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology; as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations.

Camp Topics:
Game Design: Physics, Engineering and Design for everyday thinking will be introduced using Sony PlayStation’s Little Big Planet. By incorporating these concepts, students will design, build, test, re-design and re-build Planets based on the specified criteria. Students will learn to exercise their analytical skills as they work cooperatively in teams to implement their newly created planets.

Programming: Using Scratch developed the MIT Media Lab; students learn the concepts of computer programming by using a simple graphical interface. Students will learn to create their own interactive art, interactive stories and games. The experience will encourage students to think about complex ideas and concepts rationally and logically. Why didn’t the dog behave like I wanted? Or, how can I fix that problem so that it doesn’t happen again?

Dates/Time: Monday, October 11, 2010 – Thursday, October 14, 2010: 9:00am to 3:30pm (Instructors arrive at 8:30am and stay no later than 4:00pm)
Position Summary: Four day camp, plus 6-8 hour training session prior to the start of camp
Salary: $800.00/per camp
Location: Columbus Elementary School located near the University District
