Third Frontier

The Third Frontier Program is Ohio’s largest-ever commitment to expanding the state’s high-tech research capabilities.

Managed by the Ohio Department of Development, the program promotes innovation and company formation that will create high-paying jobs for generations to come. The 10-year, $1.6 billion initiative is designed to:

  • Build world-class research capacity
  • Support early stage capital formation and the development of new products
  • Finance advanced manufacturing technologies to help existing industries become more productive

The program is an integral part of TechColumbus. It provides funding for TechStart, along with our community partners.

The program is headed by Ohio Lt. Governor Lee Fisher, who serves as
chair of the Third Frontier Commission.
