Thomson Reuters Names OhioHealth One of the Nation’s Top Hospital Systems

August 13, 2009

A recent study based on data from Thomson Reuters ranks OhioHealth and its eight-hospital system as one of the Top Ten Health Systems in the Nation.  The study was based on ranking 252 health systems according to criteria including public mortality rates, medical complications, patient safety, length of stay and compliance with clinical standards set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Although the hospitals making the top ten are of a variety of sizes, religious affiliations,  for-profit and nonprofit designations, Ohio dominated the rankings with five of the top ten being Ohio-based companies.

OSU’s Medical Center was not included as a system for the purposes of this study because of a clerical notation in how it reports to Medicare.  According to a Thomson Reuters’ representative OSU would likely be included in future studies because it has two acute-care hospitals.
