Three Central Ohio Corporations Named to 2011 CIO100 List

August 12, 2011

Three local companies were recognized for excellence in IT in CIO Magazine. Nationwide Investment Services, OhioHealth and Safelite Group were all named to the 2011 CIO100 list.

Nationwide was recognized for a $150 million, multiyear customer-information-management project, the goal of which is to help the company become an industry leader in customer service. The project involved consolidating all customer information into one system, deploying advanced analytics, and providing a library of sales and service-related activities to distribution channels. The new system is projected to generate $15 million in additional premiums in 2011 and $100 million over the next five years.

OhioHealth’s Stroke Network, a telemedicine system that connects physicians in remote hospitals directly to critical care nurses in Columbus, was also recognized.  The system uses a combination of a wireless audio-visual conferencing system and software that handle the clinical documentation and integration of images from radiology exams. By connecting physicians in rural areas with the staff of an electronic intensive care unit (eICU), the system allows virtual interaction between on-call neurologists in Columbus and the local medical team to determine recommended treatments.  The program went live in October 2010 and promises to significantly reduce mortality rates from stroke.

Safelite Group was recognized for its new mobile application, which utilizes RIM BlackBerry 8350 devices with GPS to expedite work orders for the company’s nearly 4,000 service technicians. The new system allows technicians to clock in, receive daily work orders with real-time updates and driving directions.  It further provides for the electronic capture of customer signatures and the processing of credit card transactions.  Since rolling out the system in 2009, Safelite has reduced administrative costs through faster work-order processing and increased appointment completion rates, saving an estimated 51 million sheets of paper annually.
