At Toobla, Intuition Drives Design But Experience Drives Business Strategy

November 19, 2009

Comparing his company to “an iTunes for Web content,” Toobla CEO Brian Link says there are a lot of competitors that do portions of what the company’s social bookmarking site does, but there’s not another one that does it all like Toobla.

“Digg and other bookmarking Web sites are not visual, nor do they let a user build intuitive collections of content that they can share with their friends,” says Link.  “We are striving to create a bookmarking service that’s beautiful and fun to browse.”

Link says he is trying to apply many of the lessons he learned through his experience as CTO for Digg.com where he helped the San Francisco startup grow from 200,000 users to 4 million in three years.

Through support from the Ohio Third Frontier, TechColumbus and its counterpart in Athens, TechGrowth Ohio, have invested more than $700,000 in Toobla.  Combining this with investments the company also received from Ohio TechAngels, the company has attracted more than $1 million in funding since 2008.  In addition to funding, Toobla receives business mentoring and entrepreneurial startup support from TechColumbus.
