Top Tablets of 2011

February 10, 2011

In 2010, the tablet computer became part of the American mainstream with the launch and rapid adoption of the iPad.  Of course, other manufacturers were quick to market in order to take advantage of this consumer trend.  Recently, Jason Hiner, editor-in-chief of TechRepublic, compiled his prediction of which will be the top tablets in 2011.

Not surprisingly, the second generation iPad takes top spot in the list.  Citing the iPad’s usability, battery life and full catalog of apps as top features, Hiner says what will really tip the scales in the iPad 2.0’s favor will be its price.  After manufacturing over 15 million of the first-gen iPads, Apple will be able to squeeze out more efficiencies, and component costs will have decreased over the past year. The result: Apple will be able to pack in more and better technology without a price increase with the iPad 2 and may even consider dropping the price on the first-gen iPad to further undercut rivals.

For fans of the Android OS, Hiner thinks that the Motorola Xoom will be number two on the list of top 10 tablets, thanks in no small part to the fact that Google has chosen Motorola for its Android-powered tablet.
