Transitioning Economy Calls For Transitioning Workforce

March 5, 2010

Technology and a transitioning economy are placing ever more Ohioans in the position needing to learn new skills and new approaches to old challenges in order to stay competitive in today’s job market.  Even the world of Ohio’s farmers has been radically reshaped involving college degrees, self-steering combines, sophisticated milking machines and the use of Twitter and Facebook to stay connected with other farmers and a hungry population.

The state’s e-newsletter, hiVelocity, recently featured a number of programs within the state aimed at retraining and repositioning Ohio’s workforce.  Ranging from educational opportunities to initiatives to encourage employee-owned companies, these programs are helping transition Ohio’s workforce.

One such program in Central Ohio is the TechColumbus CareerTrack membership, a new program offered for individuals and designed to help professionals and college students develop career and business skills and connections within Central Ohio’s business and technology communities.  CareerTrack, which was launched the end of 2009, offers an abundance of online career builder tools, professional networking, educational opportunities and access to all TechColumbus events at special member pricing.

“We’ve been pleased with the response to the CareerTrack program,” said Tim Haynes, vice president of member services and marketing with TechColumbus.  “We saw this as an opportunity to serve the community by providing access to the resources that will help students and professionals in transition gain a competitive edge, especially within the tech sector.”

A CareerTrack educational event is scheduled for March 15 from 5-7 p.m. during which professional career coach, Jeremy Worthington, will offer tips for enhancing your resume and online image.   The event is offered exclusively for CareerTrack members.
