Among the more than 175 million Twitter users are some of the world’s political leaders. Over half of the heads of states attending the upcoming G20 meeting in Seoul November 11-12 have an official Twitter account. Of note, President Barack Obama has some 5.5 million followers. Other leaders are not quite so popular; the French Presidency only has 6,600. But what is interesting is not who has the most followers, but who follows whom.
Obama follows his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev; and both follow UK Prime Minister David Cameron. However, only London and Moscow follow Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper. And the French Presidency follows no one – perhaps that explains why that account only has 6,600 followers.
