Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, advertising or a related field.

  • Marketing management experience including a minimum of 7 years experience in a middle management position and preferably 3 - 5 years experience in a senior management position.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may apply.

  • Thorough knowledge of development and implementation of integrated communication plans and marketing strategies that drive strategic business decisions.

  • Build strong working relationships with marketing community, high level volunteers, and community non-profit leaders to develop resources that ensure excellent results and cooperative relationships among UWCO staff.

Contacts

Regularly interacts with supervisor and all UWCO staff.  Periodically interacts with volunteers, outside vendors and consultants.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear, and reach with hands and arms.Regularly use the telephone for communication.

  • Frequently use office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, and scanners.

  • Job is performed indoors in an office setting and includes extensive work at a computer monitor.

  • Must be able to travel

 

Description

United way of Central Ohio is looking to recruit new leadership for their marketing department. Essential duties would include  directing the development and management of the brand, marketing and strategic communication efforts required to support the long term strategic direction of the organization,  overseeing the planning, development and direction of all UWCO marketing efforts, ensuring the integration of effective marketing and communication strategies, both internally and externally, across all functional areas of United Way and provide day-to-day leadership of the Marketing Department serving as a member of the internal senior management team.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Brand Management

  • Responsible for building and sustaining a strong, compelling local brand identity consistent with UWCO’s mission and values and national UWW standards.

  • Ensures brand consistency in all UWCO communications and events.

  • Identifies opportunities and supporting initiatives that build the United Way of Central Ohio brand.

Marketing

  • Manages and coordinates all marketing, advertising and promotional staff effort on behalf of the organization.

  • Oversees all market research and analyses of customer research, current market conditions and competitor information.  Works closely with RD to lead research efforts to identify and prioritize potential donors in each of the key target segments.

  • Develops effective partnerships with media, corporate and member agency marketing professionals and others to enhance UWCO’s marketing and promotional efforts.

  • Develops effective strategies for reaching diverse communities in Central Ohio and ensuring that UWCO marketing materials are culturally competent.

  • Oversees the development and execution of all key organizational events.

  • Works closely with RD staff leadership to develop compelling “off the shelf” and targeted sales and marketing materials to support UWCO all fundraising efforts.

  • Periodically assesses the effectiveness of UWCO marketing efforts.

Strategic Communications

  • Directs overall UWCO message strategies and communications to all key constituents.

  • Oversees the development of concept and copy for all high-level communication projects including speech writing, advertising, web-based tools, and interactive communications such as social media.  Writes and edits high-level communications copy as needed.

  • Develops an integrated communication plan emphasizing implementation and action to strengthen and clarify United Way’s role in addressing community, health and human services issues.

 Media and Public Relations

  • Responsible for developing effective partnerships and working relationships with local media to ensure positive UWCO coverage, maximum UWCO exposure and to proactively place UWCO stories/speeches/placements in targeted communications vehicles. 

  • Oversees all UWCO public relations efforts including devising solutions to complex public relations and marketing communications issues, including crisis communications.

Social Media & Engagement

  • Plans, develops and directs social media strategies designed to optimize UWCO’s ability to reach and engage donors, key stakeholders and the general public.

  • Works closely with RD team to develop social media strategies and plans specifically targeted to fundraising.

Administration

  • Responsible for day to day supervision of department staff and related  administrative tasks. 

  • Responsible for developing and monitoring a department budget, vendor payments and overall accountability for department finances.

  • Oversees and monitors performance of marketing consultants ensuring high quality products and timely compliance with contracts.

  • Staffs the board-level marketing committee and maintains excellent, high-level media and opinion leader contacts.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports United Way Mission, Vision, Value Statements, Service Standards, Confidentiality Standards, and Policies and Procedures.
