The Ohio State University recently held its annual business plan competition. Hosted by the Fisher College of Business, the competition evaluates business plans submitted from across the university and honors those that represent the most promise for becoming viable, scalable businesses.
Winning first place in the Open Track, sponsored by Deloitte, was Genanosys, a patented platform technology providing solutions to the power wall problem within the semiconductor industry. Genanosys designs and prototypes integrated circuits which, when incorporating the company’s base-line technology, will be 50 percent more power efficient than current competitors and will produce 75 percent less heat than existing technologies. As first place winner, Genanosys will receive a bundled prize package of cash and in-kind services to help them further commercialize their business plan. This includes a year’s free office space, along with coaching, mentoring and technical services from TechColumbus.
Second and third place honors in the Open Track went to New Dimensions and HOIA Health respectively.
In the Undergraduate Track, sponsored by Venture Highway, first place went to FinDestiny. FinDestiny is a Web-based financial and goal-planning application focused on providing actionable financial advice.
Second and third place honors in the Undergraduate Track went to Social Signature and Columbus Promos respectively.
Adaptive Fitness, a team that studied the unmet need of physically disabled adults seeking resources to allow them to independently engage in regular physical fitness activities, was honored with the Social Innovation Award, sponsored by the Tony R. Wells Foundation.
The Society of Business and Engineers Award went to Team Vision which has developed a concept for a low vision music aid to assist musicians who have lost the ability to read sheet music due to a visual impairment.
Congratulations to all winners and runners up. Complete details on the Ohio State 2011 Business Plan Competition awardees will be available next week from Fisher.
